Didn’t see that one coming, did you?

This was a move that shocked a lot of readers at the time of release.  Spending a whole first issue establishing your main character, only to suddenly kill them off?  And yes, he IS dead.  No quick resurrections in THIS superhero comic!  But if Alex is a goner, whose story is this?  Well, keep reading…

This is another cracker of a page from Jon, with more stylish use of shadow and more lashings of blood.  Ray Dillon clearly had fun with the heavy red palette of this particular page.  That decapitation at the end is particularly gruesome!

But hopefully, more than being a nice, nasty visual, there’s a note of genuine sadness in Alex’s death.  That’s why I wanted to have the last thing he saw before he is killed be Amy Harris, the girl he failed.  Because of course, in life, people don’t die at a convenient time with everything in their life neatly resolved.  They leave things hanging, important actions left undone.  And with Alex gone, poor Amy, wherever she is, now has no one fighting for her…
