The Standard #3 – Page 16
For today’s commentary, I thought I’d talk a little bit about Unbreakium. This is a gag that perhaps betrays the age of the original script, as it was originally inspired as a dig at AVATAR. I’d seen the film relatively recently, and in the movie, the fuel source the humans are scrambling over is called Unobtainium. I remember hearing that while watching the film, and thinking it was daft as hell. So I decided to make the super-strong metal The Standard gets trapped in here be called Unbreakium, to be similarly on-the-nose. Though I guess it also works as a play on the likes of Adamantium, and other names for people and things in comic books which act as heavy-handed symbolism.
Remember, folks: the deluxe hardcover Kickstarter for THE STANDARD launches one week from today!
