In the bottom corner of this page, we see Piper fleeing the scene, with the shot framed by Jon Rector in a way that has it reflect The Skunk’s retreat on the previous page.  By having the pages mirror one another, we hopefully also act to underline the key differences in the dynamics of each fight scene.  The previous page highlighted a simpler time when problems could be solved by just merrily beating up the bad guys… though there could be a point to be made there about casual violence being linked to a more “innocent” time!  Here, though, The Standard is presented with a threat he can’t just easily punch through.  These are children who have been brainwashed and compelled to attack him, and it’s The Standard’s own traditional morals that are his apparent undoing here.

Don’t forget, next week the Kickstarter for THE STANDARD collection launches. Have you joined our Thunderclap yet?
