As you can see here, while Gilbert Graham got his Standard powers from a meteorite, Alex Thomas gains his from a different source.  What is the former Fabu-Lad’s story?  Keep reading to find out…

This was the first time I’d ever written a silent page for a comic.  At first I was wary of doing it. Would it come across as “lazy” to not put words on the page?  But through experience, I’ve learned that telling a story without the use of words in fact requires flexing a different set of creative muscles.  And I love seeing how artists rise to the challenge of shouldering more of the narrative burden and selling the story entirely through their framing of the scene and the emotions they draw into the characters.  Jonathan Rector of course has a great skill in portraying emotions, and he’s aided ably here by the cool, sombre palette of Ray Dillon’s colors.  I’ve since gone on to have many silent pages in subsequent comics!
