As I was saying yesterday, this for me is one of the most important scenes in the whole series. I believe that, because looking back at it, I think much of what THE STANDARD is really about and what it means to me is wrapped up in this scene. What we get explicitly here is what has been implied from the beginning, that Alex was a surrogate son to Gilbert. And, going past all the superheroics, at his core, Gilbert Graham is a great dad. And that felt quite poignant for me.
I felt that this important beat would be a good point to finish the series, and I had originally planned for this to be the final page. However, I decided it would be too downbeat a conclusion for what I envisioned as being ultimately an optimistic, hopeful series. So, tune in for that final page tomorrow!
