Here, Zena Zarthos begins to tell her story to The Corpse, unlocking the motive behind the mass murderer targeting her and beheading those associated to her. The full exposition dump comes tomorrow, but here, we see one crucial element that brings back into play a key figure we thought departed from the story: Alex Thomas. As we can see, it was him who set the whole plan in motion, explaining why he was first on the chopping block. The full nature of his involvement will be revealed tomorrow!
One touch I liked about this panel was that, even though Zena isn’t smoking here, Jon used the smoke-style captions for Zena’s recollections that he used back in her description of her encounter with The Corpse back in issue #2, subtly creating a visual consistency with the visual language of segueing into a Zena story.
