Here, Bill Finney goes a bit meta, voicing some of the criticisms people in the real world have of superheroes, while also touching on why they might still be important anyway.
You’re spot on with this page.
We NEED superheroes. Their stories are important, they give us inspiration and hope, an ideal (yes, a Standard, if you will) to look up. They’re our modern day mythology, filling the same role the stories about Heracles, Perseus and Thor filled once upon a time.
And thank you for sharing The Standard for free like this. It’s an excellent story, I love it.
